Week 9

I’m honestly in denial that it is week 9. The project is really starting to come together, which is good because this is the last week that I can work on this project.

My big focus over the weekend was adding details. While still more to go, I added the inset to the drawer and the rail system that makes it move. I also want to tackle the handle in necessary. I recreated the lampshade and added the baseboard to the background. In addition I also did some animation on the figure jumping out of the drawer.

Things I would like to focus on next would be to get something in the background. the lighting is matched fine with the plate, but I won’t know how will the extension fits until those objects are present.

The main note I received during the dailies on Monday was that I needed to work on the interaction between the object and the ground (or tabletop in this situation) with the problem being a bright white reflection on the feet of the figure. I was able to fix this issue by rendering two additional passes. The first pass was object ambient occlusion. The second main pass was a figure that reflected the shadow matte which was invisible to camera.

Again I focused more on individual details added to the scene. First I applied textures to the figure and the inside of the drawer to match the real counterparts. Second I removed the handle on the drawer and replaced it with a cg duplicate. Third I added a chair to the set extension to fill out that side of frame more. The final detail I added or at least tried to add was a Lego set to the right side table however I didn’t like how much it distracted from the main focus of the shot so I removed it. The plan is to add something simpler like a stack of books.
